  • Rabies

Health Conditions:
Housetrained? somewhat
Dog surrendered to Rescue because: Other
Other Reason: Hunter is a really good boy who was surrendered due to a special needs child in the family. Their focus for time and energy shifted and thus they had to make a difficult decision but one that was best for Hunter.
Good With:
  • Other Dogs
  • Strangers
Dog Likes:
  • Water
  • Retrieving
  • Hunting
  • Car Rides
Working Ability:
Working Comments: Hunter was hunt trained and loves it very much. The family's priority to provide more time and focus on a special needs child has caused a stall in Hunter's training. So he'll need a refresher/reminder on his training both obedience and hunting.
Behavioral Problems:
  • Chasing/Nipping
  • Other
Other Behavioral Problems: With some time, routine and patience, Hunter will be reminded of his past obedience and hunting work. Currently he is so excited to have his foster mom's attention that he's jumping up and nipping shirt cuffs. He definitely is a loving and great boy but needs the security of exercise, training, and routine.
Bitten? No
Bite Explanation:
Commands known:
  • Sit
  • Stay
  • Down
  • Come
  • Heel
Tricks: He knows his commands, but will need some time to make them "stick" longer, particularly "Stay." Hunter is very well behaved and calm on a leash.
Other Info: Hunter's barks are appropriate, when someone comes into the yard, if he gets left in the kennel, etc. But he settles down and is very relaxed when he is supposed to be. He is kennel and crate trained. We are told he has food aggression and is aggressive to children coming too close to his kennel. We recommend that he is adopted by an owner/family with long time experience and familiar with the breed, especially a hunting home with no small children.
