Working Ability:
Working Comments: June 9: Hercules is as big as a C-130 Herky bird! 90# of leaning love, typical Chessie! I had him out for a walk today and he knows sit, stay, down, down/stay and out. When he saw that ball he about flipped! He played with me and it for about an hour. He always gave it to me when I touched it in his mouth and was very gentle taking treats. I let him take the ball back to his kennel and he seemed like he had found a long lost friend.

Update June 30: When Herc was in the shelter he had a large lump on his front leg in the ankle area. It has continued to grow in size. Dave’s vet did a biopsy that showed it is cancerous. Herc saw a specialist. It is his opinion that the only treatment is amputation. He did x-rays that show the cancer has not spread. The amputation estimate is $2500.

Update July 13: Herc had his amputation on Thursday and was able to come home on Friday. Dave had decided to move out into the garage until Herc was able to maneuver around the house and the other dogs. Herc had other ideas. As soon as he got home, he ran into the house. It doesn't sound like he is having any trouble getting around. When the leg was removed the surgeon said the cancer had not metastasized.

Update July 14: Herc seems to be in good spirits and just wants to snuggle. He has no problem getting up the steps to the house from the garage and none going in or out.
