New Info as of Feb 2008: Major has allergies and will require special care throughout his life. His food allergy is currently under control with the use of a limited ingredient dry dog food. The food is commercially available at pet stores, including the large chains like PetCo and PetSmart, and costs no more than their other dry dog food products. Depending on the amount of airborne allergen in his environment, Major may need occasional pharmaceutical support to ease his symptoms. Major also requires occasional medicated baths. Major's fur has grown back and he looks wonderful. He receives a daily antihistamine and weekly medicated baths but otherwise is a typical chessie.
With all he's been through, Major has the sweetest disposition imaginable. As he felt relief from the skin irritations, he began to show a more playful side and has turned out to be an affectionate, laid-back Chessie. He does have extremely selective hearing however...he just can't seem to hear me call when he's swimming in the pond! This dog would likely do best in a non-agricultural environment. He needs a very special adoptive home -- someone willing to take on the challenges of a dog needing a controlled diet and occasional medicated baths. In return, Major promises to be a loving and grateful lifelong companion. |
