Health Conditions:	Kodiak has a condition called "dry eye", which means he is unable to produce tears. Unfortunately, we have tried every medicine on the market for dry eye with no success. The only remaining treatment is surgical and, in our opinion, the benefits do not outweight the risks so we will not be opting for that procedure. At this point, Kodiak is perfectly happy with flushing his eyes with saline solution on a regular basis (about every 4 hours or so) throughout the day to keep them clear of hard mucous.

Other Info:	Kodiak is a Gentle Giant Chessie. However, we know that he will chase cats, does not care for strange dogs (but gets along with the female resident foster and several other dogs belonging to friends of the foster family) and does not appreciate the garbage truck. Kodiak would be happiest in a home without other pets. Unfortunately, we believe that Kodiak's eye sight is becoming increasingly limited. However, with his decrease in vision has also come a decrease in his excitability. He walks well on lead and, when off lead (only in areas that are familiar to him), he comes when called. If you're looking for a loving Big Fella who wants to hang out with you and who couldn't care less about having another dog for company and you don't have change your furniture arrangement on a seasonal basis, please consider Kodiak.
