Help Alleviate Majors Discomfort...

It’s never a good sign when the first thing the vet says after an initial evaluation is “Well, you realize this won’t be cheap.”  Fortunately, the vet feels confident that with hard work, consistent action, and time  Major's suffering can be alleviated.

Major is only 5 years old and has had at least four different homes, three different names, and has been in a shelter at least once. All of which, has contributed to his medical condition.

It is believed Majors medical issues stem from allergies. At this point in time, we're hoping it's only food allergies.

Due to his skin irritations, Major has scratched off most of his hair and his exposed skin is extremely red and hot to the touch. The inflammation has caused wrinkles and the folds of extra skin harbor a strong, smelly yeast infection. Major also has several open sores and is constantly in distress he also suffers from eye and ear problems. Unfortunately, due to Major's constant skin irritation, he really cannot concentrate on anything except trying to find a way to live within his own skin.

Major has been given steroids and antibiotics at the veterinary clinic. He continues on medication and is given medicated baths to help alleviate his symptoms. The medications are giving him immediate relief from the itching and he is now able to make it through the day with only minor licking, rubbing and scratching.

Major is also on a strict diet which consists of a special duck and potato formula dog food. If the special diet solves the underlying allergy problem, Major will need to stay on a restricted diet for the rest of his life.  It will take several weeks to determine if the diet modification alone will resolve Major’s skin problems.

With all he's been through...Major has the sweetest disposition imaginable, remarkably deep amber-colored eyes, and the softest coat ever felt on a Chessie. He is loving and friendly, and is becoming much more active and playful.

Maybe you can’t provide the time and attention necessary to adopt a special needs dog like Major, but you can still help save his life and return him to health.  Please consider participating in his rehabilitation by sponsoring Major’s continuing treatment.  Please be assured that, as Major overcomes his challenges, any extra money donated toward Major’s care will be used to assist another Chessie in distress.
