In May CBRR&R rescued an abandoned, deadgrass Chesapeake named Samantha.
She has hungry and alone in the house her owners had been evicted from and
left her in. A neighbor called CBRR&R and asked if we would help Samantha.
When our volunteer arrived at the home, she found a seriously underweight CBR with
eyes and ears producing green goop and small lesions all over her body. Sammy
had a laundry list of problems when she came to her foster home in Ohio. In that
steadfast manner that is so typical of Chesapeakes, one by one she is conquering
them. Through it all Samantha is a happy, sweet girl who did not deserve the
hand she was dealt.
As soon as Samantha came into rescue
she went to see a Veterinarian. After several tests, including one for
airborne allergies, it was determined that Samantha had a severe staph infection
and pyoderma, probably aggravated by her allergies (which really are rather mild),
poor nutrition and a lack of healthcare. Samantha received a high-dollar injected
antibiotic and has been on oral antibiotics, allergy meds, and medicated baths.
She has one more re-check on September 19th and, if she is declared to be healthy,
we will schedule the cosmetic surgery to remove her very large skin tag.
We expect Samantha’s expenses to top $1000.00, but she’s young and in the words
of her vet, well on her way to “perfectly healthy.” If you are interested in
giving Samantha a forever home or would like more information about her
please visit her web page.
UPDATE: Samantha's skin tag removal went
well. She has completely recovered and this past friday she was adopted!! Thank you
to everyone that helped Samantha to find her forever home!!!!
