Happy New Year from CBRR&R and the Dakota Dogs!
With 2009 coming to an end we wanted to thank everyone for their support over the last year. 2009 has been one of the busiest years in the history of CBRR&R. One of the bigger challenges of the year was the rescuing of 10 dogs from South Dakota that had been seized from their home due to neglect. These dogs were starving for food, love and attention. With your support we were able to bring these dogs into CBRR&R and give them a chance at a new life. We wanted to end the year with an update of how these dogs are doing.
Hayden: Hayden is one of the adult males and was the only dog that tested positive for heartworms. He did great with his heartworm treatment and was adopted right after it finished. He is doing wonderfully in his new home and has a kitty as a friend.
Belle: Belle is one of the 5 month old pups. She was very timid but started to come out of her shell at her foster home. She has been adopted and her adopters adore her.
Bonnie: Bonnie is also one of the 5 month old pups. She is in a foster home in Ohio and is receiving lots of one on one training. She is doing well with women but is still very afraid of men. We hope she will be far enough along in her training to be placed early next year.
Matthew: I am very sorry to report that Matthew has passed away. He was the male 5 month old pup. He is the only one of our Dakota dogs that did not make it.
Hannah: Hannah was the momma of the 5 month old pups. When we first brought these dogs into rescue the dogs were very malnourished so any vaccinations or altering had to be postponed until they had gained weight. About six weeks after Hannah came into rescue, her foster mom called to say she thought Hannah was pregnant because she was producing milk. Hannah had been pregnant when she came into rescue but because of her emaciated state, we couldn’t tell. Soon after milk production began, Hannah delivered 5 pups. One pup was stillborn but the remaining four were healthy. The pups were all placed in homes in mid-October. Hannah has recovered from having the litter and is doing well. She is still with her foster family in IL who are continuing to work with her on socialization and training.
Kane, Colton, Emily, Ryan and Dana: Each of these dogs are with their original foster family in IL. Their foster family continues to work with them on training and socialization. They have all made progress but still have a way to go before they can be adopted out.
