Sadie was found in an eastern NC shelter. She was a stray and due to be put down that day. She had a noticeable
issue with her rear legs. A friend of rescue took her from the shelter and took her to his vet for x-rays. It was
determined that she had a shortened T11 vertebrae and was extremely underweight. She did not appear to be in any pain.
She was then taken to a veterinary neurologist for further examination. The neurologist said Sadie was getting along very
well considering her shortened vertebrae but he was concerned about what will happen to her when she gets older.
He said future mobility or any possible tretments could not be determined without further testing, specifically an MRI.
Right now Sadie is able to get around her environment as long as there are not too many stairs. She can handle
about 4-5 in a row but not more than that. It appears that she does not completely feel her back legs and she
has decreased reflexes, especially in the left leg. We are concerned about what changes may occur as
she gets bigger. She is estimated to be between 6-8 months so she will grow for many months to come.
An MRI is necessary to get an accurate predictor of her future mobility. This test will allow the orthopedic
specialist to diagnose what is causing Sadie's rear leg issue and come up with a treatment plan if needed. Approximately
$1500 is needed for the MRI. As we learn more about what is needed for Sadie, we will update her page.
We have uploaded a video to YouTube of Sadie at play. She is a sweet girl who loves to play. But as you can
see from watching the video, her legs give out every few steps. To watch the video

be scheduling her MRI in the very near future. In the meantime Sadie is continuing to do well in foster care.
She adores the foster family's children. She has gotten to go swimming and seems to be a natural!
