Other Info: nine year old, male, neutered deadgrass Chessie named Oak. He has papers but is not registered. He came from a breeder in Beaufort, NC. I moved to Asheboro in May '16 and then lost my job in October. I'm going through a major hardship right now and can no longer properly care for Oak. Being new to the region I have no contacts here and don't know where to turn. He doesn't deserve the shelter and my family aren't able to help. This is truly heartbreaking. He has a mild disposition, not aggressive like other Chesapeakes. He is, however, a wrecking ball. He's definitely been a one-owner dog, listening only to me. He's been socialized around other dogs and is playful or just ignores them. He's never attacked a soul, but will go for his toy with conviction unless it's me holding it, and will protect his bone/treat from others. I wouldn't necessarily call him gentle, but definitely not aggressive. He's stayed outdoors most of his life due to many cats and 2 small dogs (which he plays with, never hurt) in the house as well. He's never really been able to settle down inside due to constant stimulation from other pets, but is crate trained. He's hot natured and tends to tear up his beds if they're too thick, usually preferring a rug. I worry about his joints as he ages. He was X-rayed at 8 months and showed no signs of dysplasia and is still quite "all puppy". He likes cats, wants to play always. He's been trained to sit, lie down, takes treats gently when given by me. He comes right away when called. When we're in the yard off-leash and a walker strolls by, he'll run to play but stops as soon as his name is called. His vet care has been neglected and I haven't been able to keep up with his heartworm preventative. I'm losing my house and can no longer provide him with what he deserves. Can you help?
